Don Kelly takes the ball from Paul Skenes during a pitching change in the sixth inning Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates squandered yet another significant lead en route to suffering an 8-5 loss to the Rockies this afternoon at Coors Field.
A day after seeing two separate nine-run leads evaporate in the series opener, the Pirates failed to hold on to a 4-0 edge, as PaulSkenes and BraxtonAshcraft combined to allow six runs in the sixth inning. Skenes was cruising through five scoreless innings before walking a batter and surrendering three hits, including a three-run home run to JordanBeck, in the sixth. Ashcraft was charged with three earned runs on five hits allowed over two innings.
The Pirates finished with seven hits, including three home runs from LioverPeguero. He hit a leadoff shot in the first inning, a three-run homer in the fifth and another solo shot in the ninth. BryanReynolds and Isiah-Kiner Falefa had two hits apiece.
"It's tough," DonKelly said. "Like I said, we gotta find a way to bounce back. I thought we did a good job of that today. Peggy started it off with a homer, had three good at-bats. We just gotta find a way tomorrow to get a W."
